Mafube‘s new Mayor, Matsole, determined to turn the municipality around

As he begins his tenure as the newly installed Mayor of the financially hamstrung Mafube Local Municipality, Phaladi Matsole has clear intentions – to revive this municipality and make it shine again. And, also to resuscitate its economy and make it thrive.

This will happen through a tangible and practical turnaround strategy that will restore hope and trust to the residents of this municipality.

Born and bred in the Mafube area Matsole views the task ahead of him and his administration as challenging, but with proper practical turnaround strategy, decisive and ethical leadership, it won’t be business as usual in the corridors of this municipality.

As a resident of Mafube himself, born at the Rivack Farm, Matsole said he knows challenges faced by communities of Mafube Municipality being Qalabotjha Villiers, Ntswanatsatsi Cornelia, Mafahlaneng Tweeling and Namahadi Frankfort.

“With political will and commitment, decades-long challenges within this municipality of service delivery issues, including roads maintenance, constant supply of clean and quality drinking water, refuse removal, financial instability and ageing infrastructure amongst others, can be addressed,” said the Mayor.

A seasoned educator of 22 years, Matsole boasts of an extensive academic record in the field of Agriculture and a B-Tech Degree, specialising in crop production, strategic leadership and financial management, and also pursuing his Master Degree focusing on the role of Municipal support in poverty reduction.

“Financial viability is one of the greatest challenges facing this municipality, especially under the current section 139 intervention status. We also aim at creating a transparent, user-friendly billing system that is fair and reopen municipal offices in Qalabotjha and Namahadi to improve revenue collection and accessibility”.

Matsole has pledged support for community driven initiatives within the municipality and thanked efforts by local farmers and business owners to fix local roads and project maintenance. The Mayor said various contracts and agreements of service providers within the municipality are currently being reviewed.
