“Robala ka khotso ya Modimo Bra Mike. Your good life was enough to uplift many. “
These were there words of PSL Chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, as he paid tribute to fallen Free State Stars Chairman, Mike Mokoena, at his funeral on Friday in Bethlehem, Free State
He continued: “Your selflessness made you create an institution that nurtured talent and provided livelihoods
“It is on your shoulders that we anchored a league that is a pride of Africa and Africans to the world.
“The true Member that you were, you always understood that we are building something much bigger than us.
“You maintained always that it is easy to destroy or disrupt. That it requires a lot to build and sustain. Your impeccable value system helped us succeed.
“That unless we sustained and jealously defended what we built it would be swept by the wayside – even hijacked.
“Puny as our business is, where we pay to develop and sustain only for others to come harvest without investing, you until death stayed dutifully firm and unwavering.
“The world over knows there are Stars in a remote Province of South Africa called the Free State because of your daring nature – especially when naysayers said, “it did not make sense or it won’t work”.
“Thanks to you, we are able to show the nation what it means to be a Member. Thank you for your selfless service Mokoena.
“So long my dear friend. I thank God for the privilege he gave me to serve with you as Members Bra Mike.“
