Fezile Dabi Distirct has recorded two confirmed cases of covid-19 which have been registered at Kroonstad. This was revealed by the District Executive Mayor Moeketsi Moshodi in a statement to the media. He further rejected the claims of individuals who have tested positive of Covid-19 in Tumahole, Parys.
Moshodi said the district municipality received confirmation and reports of the two cases from the Department of Health.
He said the contact tracing units are doing everything in their power to connect with those who might have had contact with these two cases, so far 34 contacts tests have been completed and all came out negative.
The Executive Mayor emphasised that claims that certain individuals have tested positive for covid-19 in Tumahole were fake news and were as such causing panic in our communities.
“This is unfortunate and regrettable and we want to appeal to our community not to pay any attention to such fake news whose intentions is to cause unnecessary panic and fear. This is not just disruptive but also is a punishable offence by law which carries a jail term of up to six months,” warned Moshodi.
He thanked all the Executive Mayors across the district for identifying public places that will be cleaned such as taxi ranks, community halls, shopping malls as well as fruit and vegetable markets.
“Our Municipal Health Services in our district will continue to provide educational awareness programmes targeting various institutions including funeral undertakers as well as individuals,” he said.
Venues to accommodate the homeless have been identified as Corny Islands in Sasolburg, which will house 50 people, Nyakolong Community hall will accommodate 30 people, Mimos Gardens in Parys to accommodate 44 people and Mafube Town Hall in Frankfort will take 30 people.
The identified quarantine sites are two so far and they Kroonspark in Kroonstad which can accommodate about 44 people and Koppies dam in Koppies which can accommodate about 30 people. However, these are still awaiting the approval of the department of health.
