Metsimaholo Local Municipality hosted a Women’s Month Programme, bringing together a beautiful gathering of female employees who filled the Harry Gwala Multipurpose Sports Centre in Zamdela,on the 28th of August 2026 in a celebration of womanhood, empowerment, resilience, purpose and leadership.
The programme was hosted through the Office of the Municipal Manager, Mr Basi Motloung, in collaboration with the Office of the Executive Mayor, Cllr Jack Malindi creating a meaningful platform for women to connect, reflect, be inspired and be reminded of the powerful role they play within the Municipality, their families and society.
Under this year’s national Women’s Month theme, “Empowered Women Empower Nations,” the programme resonated deeply with the legacy of the women of 1956 — women who demonstrated that when women stand together with courage and purpose, they can influence the destiny of a nation. 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the historic 1956 Women’s March.
The Municipality brought together carefully selected voices from different spheres of Government, including Health Department, Social Development, Justice and the National Prosecuting Authority, Development Finance and Faith in ensuring that the women were engaged on issues touching different dimensions of their lives and empowerment.
Ms Grace Phoofolo, the final guest speaker, delivered a particularly powerful and thought-provoking message. Her address left the women challenged to recognise their value, embrace their influence and understand that empowerment is not merely about being celebrated , it is about rising, taking up space, leading with purpose and using one’s influence to transform others.
