The Fezile Dabi District Municipality Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) held its first sitting under the new leadership of the newly elected MPAC Chairperson, Cllr Emma Masiteng, this week, following her election on 14 May 2026.
Masiteng has described her appointment as both an honour and responsibility, committing herself to building on the strong foundation already laid by the Committee. She further called for robust participation from committee members and encouraged open engagement during the proceedings.
The meeting also marked MPAC’s first engagement with the newly appointed multi-disciplinary team appointed by Council on 28 April 2026, to support the committee’s investigative work relating to Unauthorised, Irregular, Fruitless and Wasteful expenditure (UIF&W). This specialised team include expertise from Legal Services, Internal Audit, Compliance, and Supply Chain Management.
A key item before the committee was the UIF&W expenditure flagged by the Auditor-General during the audit of the 2024/2025 financial year. Following the deliberations, the item was deferred to allow the investigating team to provide a detailed investigation report.
MPAC emphasized that the investigation process must be conducted thoroughly, particularly given the historical nature of some of the matters under consideration. The committee expects to receive a comprehensive report with findings and recommendations at the next ensuing MPAC meeting.
Members of the committee and the administration congratulated Chairperson Masiteng on her appointment and expressed confidence in her leadership.
