The Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court has convicted and sentenced Mr Bhekisisa Khumalo (54) to 13 years’ imprisonment for murder.
On Wednesday, 13 November 2024, at approximately 08:04, Zamdela police received a complaint of murder. Upon arrival at the scene in Chris Hani, officers discovered the body of a 23-year-old woman, Mantsana “Spado” Thulo, inside an outside toilet at a residential property. The victim was found partially undressed and unresponsive, and was declared dead by emergency services.
The investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Sibongile Nyofane, conducted a preliminary investigation at the scene. Acting swiftly on information received, she collaborated with other SAPS units and proceeded to the N3 highway, where a vehicle checkpoint (VCP) was conducted. Taxis travelling towards Bergville were searched, leading to the successful arrest of the suspect.

Through thorough investigation, it was established that the accused and the deceased had met at a local tavern and later went to his residence. An altercation reportedly occurred at the outside toilet, which resulted in the death of the victim.
On Wednesday, 1 April 2026, the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court sentenced Mr Khumalo to 13 years’ direct imprisonment for murder.
