The police in Heilbron are warning motorists to be extra vigilant of hijackers on the R57 road between Zamdela (Sasolburg) and Heilbron.
This comes after police in Heilbron and Zamdela have experienced nine hijackings since the beginning of July 2020.
According to Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, the most recent incident took place on Saturday 2020-07-18 at about 17:20 the driver was stopped by four unknown males who were standing on the side of the road on the R57 Deneysville crossing pretending to seek for direction when he stopped they attacked and overpowered him.
“They took the driver and put him in the back seat of the car and drove with him until to an open field in Randfontein in Gauteng Province where they dropped him off after they badly assaulted him.
“Most of the time the hijackers target motorists who stop next to the road to urinate,”said Makhele.
He warned that in other incidents hijackers pretend to be hitch-hikers on the R82 fourways stop crossing of Amelia section and R57 Deneysville crossing and once they are in the vehicle they over power the driver and take his vehicle and leave them at an open veld mostly in the Gauteng Province.
The hijackers are mostly three or four African males and some of them speak Zulu operating from 17:00 driving a white Polo, White Ford Ranger, white Fortuner and a white Toyota Corolla (Kentucky rounder shape) three of the suspects are armed with handguns and target any type of vehicle.
