Metsimaholo Local Municipality has reported two cases of Covid-19 within the institution after two public safety officers tested positive for the virus. The two officials have been placed under isolation as per the directive of the Department of Health and COVID-19 regulations.and all employees who work at the Public Safety offices who were in contact with the officers have been informed.
According to the Metsimaholo Spokesperson, Dr Gino Alberts, the Public Safety offices have been temporarily closed for a period of seven days till further notice and employees at the Public Safety offices have been asked to stay at home. The building has been sanitised in order to prepare and declare it safe for employees to work.
Metsimaholo Executive Mayor, Cllr Lindiwe Tshongwe, has urged all employees and residents of Metsimaholo to be part of a fight against the spread of Covid-19 as it is each and every South African’s responsibility to do so.
She further asked the public to be wary of the known pandemic symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat, and shortness of breath and made a humble plea to always take the required preventative actions, such as regularly and thoroughly washing hands with soap or hand sanitizer, maintaining social distancing, wearing a mask, avoiding crowded public places, avoid touching the eyes, mouth and nose, following respiratory hygiene and seeking medical attention when any symptoms arise.
Cllr Tshongwe once more reminds the community members of Metsimaholo to not forget their masks when they leave their homes.
“We call on all community members not to panic as we are working with the Department of Health in order to prevent the spread of this deadly virus,” she said.
