Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality on Wednesday, 26 August 2020, hosted a session with its employees, who are survivors of Covid-19, to help them deal with feelings of fear and anxiety.
The session happened as fear and anxiety are some of the feelings which the survivors of Covid-19 have to deal with. Also in attendance were those, who have not tested positive for Covid-19.
The session was organised by the Directorate of Community Services at this municipality.
The municipality invited Psychologist Keabetse Mofokeng to have a heart-to-heart talk with these employees. The sessions were held at the municipality’s headquarters and the fire station.
Mofokeng ‘s talk focused on fear, anxiety, confusion and sense of insecurity.
“What I have realised is that those who found themselves to have tested positive with Covid-19 are finding it hard to cope. There is so much fear, confusion and sense of insecurity. This is also affecting their work performance.
“There is still much anxiety for some, especially when they feel that symptoms, such as mild cough, are still there. Hence, they always need all forms of support,” said Mofokeng.
According to him, sessions of this nature need to be held regularly to assist the survivors in coping.
Member of Mayoral Committee for Community Services, Mofumahadi Thato Mopeli, said it is the endeavours of her directorate to offer employees pyscho-social support and services.
“The sessions are for information sharing on Covid-19 as well as debriefing of the survivors. They are also meant to demonstrate care and support to them,” she said.
Mofumahadi Mopeli pointed out that clean environment, care, support and adherence to health protocols are key in the fight against Covid-19.
