Heilbron Stock Unit Investigate Gruesome killing of 45 Sheeps Found Between Steynsrus and Arlington.
A case docket of StockTheft that was opened at Steynsrus Police Station is being investigated by the Heilbron Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit.
According to the 54-year-old complainant, who is a farmer and resides at Somerset Oos Farm, a shortfall was noticed during livestock counting on Saturday, 29 August 2026, at Rietvlei Farm. The complainant alleges that the initial count on Friday, 28 August 2026, was a total of 186 sheep, of which 85 were SA Meat Merino ewes and 101 SA Meat Merino lambs.
When the counting was conducted on Saturday, only 69 SA Meat Merino ewes and 72 SA Meat Merino lambs were still on the farm. A total of 45 sheep, of which 16 are SA Meat Merino ewes and 29 SA Meat Merino lambs, could not be accounted for. The combined directed value of the missing sheep is estimated at R151 000.
It is alleged that some of the sheep were found on the Steynsrus-Arlington gravel road, sparsely placed, with their throats slit.
