In order to ensure that municipal buildings and public facilities are disinfected and safe in the height of Covid-19 pandemic, the Local Municipality of Metsimaholo has started a fumigation drive of all these areas. The fumigation is done as a precautionary measure in the fight against the spread of this deadly Coronavirus.
According to the municipality spokesperson, Dr Gino Alberts, the first place to be fumigated was municipal headquarters at the Civic Centre in the town of Sasolburg. It was followed by Harry Gwala Multipurpose Community Centre, Penny Heyns Swimming Pool, Sasolburg Taxi Rank and public toilets.
He says the cleaning and disinfection process was further taken to other municipal buildings and facilities, which includes community halls, in Deneysville, Refengkgotsi and Metsimaholo.
Alberts appealed to community members to ensure that they always wear masks when leaving home.
“You will not be allowed to enter any of our municipal buildings without wearing a masks and being sanitized, in light of combating the spread of Coronavirus. No Mask, No Entry,” he stressed.
The Acting Municipal Manager of Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Motsumi Mathe, said the aim of the fumigation process is to guarantee the safety of the community members as they enter municipal buildings for services.
“We are applying and implementing measures to promote and establish conditions favourable to public health by fumigating and sanitizing all our buildings and facilities,” said Mathe.
According to the Acting Municipal Manager the municipality’s essential services are proceeding smoothly as planned and they are doing a great job as the municipality has a responsibility of ensuring that employees who return to work should always be safe.
“We would like to thank our essential workers for sacrificing their time and energy during this difficult time,”said Mathe.
