Police have arrested four male suspects, aged between 27 and 36, for attempted murder. The suspects were #WANTED after an African male was brutally assaulted with dangerous weapons at his parental home in Meloding, Virginia.
The alleged assault occurred on Friday, 10 July 2026, at 03:00.
It is alleged that on the day of the incident, six males forcefully entered the victim’s home, assaulted him, and accused him of stealing their drugs. The victim sustained severe head and body injuries and was taken to hospital for medical treatment. A case of attempted murder was registered for further investigation.
On Monday, 13 July 2026, the Welkom #AntiGangUnit (AGU) received information from Thabong Crime Intelligence regarding the whereabouts of some of the suspects. The information was operationalised, and the alleged suspects were traced and arrested at various addresses in Meloding.
During the arrests, police also seized several dangerous weapons believed to have been used in the commission of the crime. The confiscated weapons, comprising pangas, knives, a tonfa, a spear, and a sjambok, were all booked in as evidence.
The arrested suspects are alleged to be gang members affiliated with the Rasta Gang. The four suspects are expected to appear before the Virginia Magistrate’s Court soon.
