Hlahane Foundation keeps Oom Summer Games Legacy alive in Koppies

The Morena Hlahane Foundation NPC, based in Kwakwatsi, Koppies, is set to continue its community development efforts through sport with the 2026 edition of the annual Oom Summer Games, which will be held under the foundation’s banner.

The tournament was launched in 2020 as the Oom Zondie Summer Games by Morena Hlahane and Bongane Khaile. This year’s edition marks a new chapter for the tournament as it continues under the Morena Hlahane Foundation.

The tournament honor the late Ntate Mwelasi Zachariah Beniah Ndzondo, who played a significant role in soccer within the Koppies communities, and its surrounding areas.

Over the years, the tournament has relied on support from local businesses and individuals to sustain its activities. It has provided a platform for male and female players across various age groups to showcase their soccer talent during the festive season in Kwakwatsi.

The foundation said it anticipates another successful tournament this year, with preparations already underway.

The 2026 edition is expected to feature Under-13 and Under-15 soccer competitions, as well as a ladies’ soccer tournament.

The games will take place at Amabele Sports Ground in Kwakwatsi.

The Morena Hlahane Foundation is encouraging interested clubs to begin preparations early and is appealing to community members, businesses and other potential sponsors to support the tournament in any way possible.

Through the annual event, the foundation aims to keep the legacy of the late Ntate Ndzondo alive while promoting sporting talent, community participation and development through soccer. https://www.backabuddy.co.za/campaign/oom-summer-games
