Keep your eyes on the prize, writes Pastor Matefu Mokoena

Find something to strive for. Something to live for. Something to fight for. Something to work hard towards. Something to pray for. That is a goal.

Aim at something. It is our goals that will push us. It is our purpose in life that will push us. It is what we desire to see happening to us that will drive us. It is the person I want to be tomorrow that will set me in motion. It is the change we want that makes us do things that will bring the change we want.

Know what you want. Know where you are going or you want to go. Know what you want to achieve. The prize is what you want. The prize is the goal you want achieve. The prize is the destination. The prize is what you want.

The greatest reward in life is having lived your purpose and enjoying the life you always dreamt. Living your own life as per God’s designs and standards is the most rewarding thing in life. Being what you always wanted to be is such a satisfaction. There is no gratification that comes with doing what you were meant to do.

Before he could take a risk of fighting the giant Goliath, a young man by the name of David wanted to know what the prize would be. What would be the reward? He wanted to know what was in store for it. He looked for something that would inspire him to fight. Something that would give him courage. Something that would spur him on. It was the prize that he wanted to keep his eye on.

For all his efforts. For all the risk he was taking. For all his prayers. For all his declaration. For all his creativity in introducing a sling and stone in the battle. For his chutzpa. For his faith. He wanted to know the prize. Yes, David wanted to know what would be the prize.

What am I doing this doing for? What am I studying for? What am I going to church? What am I spending my days praying and fasting for? What am I in the business for? These are some of the questions that should provoke our thoughts. Keeping your eyes on the prize will keep focused.
