MEC Mbalula appointed acting Premier of the Free State Province

The Premier of the Free State, MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae has appointed the MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport, Jabu Mbalula, as Acting Premier of the Free State Province, stepping in while the Premier is abroad on official work duties.

The appointment runs from 4 May to 11 May 2026, ensuring seamless governance during the Premier’s absence. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Free State Division of the High Court on Monday, 4 May 2026, presided over by Judge President Cagney John Musi. Among those present were the Director-General, Dr. Molefinyana Phera, and Acting Deputy Director-General for Corporate Administration, Adv. Kuni Ditira.

Premier Letsoha-Mathae also appointed the for MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development and Environmental Affairs, Elzabe Rockman, as the Acting MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism for the same period, from 4 May to 11 May 2026.
