Food security for all as churches and ECDs receive gardening tools

The Free State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), kick-started a community outreach programme, in Kwakwatsi Koppies this week, by handing out Food Security Production Inputs to Early Child Development (ECD) and Koppies Churches in a bid to capacitate them to expand their production.

The outreach programme was held at Ethopian Church of Lesotho, Koppies, Ngwathe Local Municipality in Fezile Dabi District.

The department handed out tools of trade ranging from fertilisers, seeds and garden tools. About 08 Churhes and 15 ECD’s have benefited thus far from this programme.

Mr. Morethebe Modutwane from the Office of the MEC highlighted the move of taking this outreach programme to agricultural communities is part of MEC’s ideology on food security in the province to establish vegetable gardens to produce their own home-grown fresh produce.

Ms. Nozi Mnyaziza, from Fezile Dabi District Office shared with the beneficiaries the main purpose of the day, she said this part of handing out these tools of trade is to raise awareness on food security and hunger . She further encouraged the community and institutions to establish vegetable gardens to produce their own home-grown fresh produce.
