Mafube Municipality on the list of flops

Mafube Local Municipality has been included in the list of non-performing municipalities by the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the ANC in the Free State.

It is among the six other municipalities named by the ANC in the Free State this week. Those are Moqhaka, Letsemeng, Nketoana, Nala, Masilonyana and Lejweleputswa Municipalities.

The PEC said it will intervene to harness the situation in these seven municipalities in the province after receiving and deliberating on the Legislature, Governance and Local Government Report from its Provincial Working Committee.

The party’s Provincial Secretary, Polediso Motsoeneng, said key decisions arising from the L&G Report, together with the Free State Provincial Government (FSPG) report, have been adopted and referred to the Provincial Working Committee (PWC) for urgent implementation of its recommendations.

He said on urgent municipal interventions, the PEC resolved that priority interventions be undertaken in these seven municipalities where there has been persistent disclaimers, weak leadership and poor governance, undermining of service delivery, including allegations of corruption.

The redeployment will affect positions at troika level, ie (Mayor, Speaker and Chief Whip). The PWC will pronounce on this decision. The provincial CoGTA is expected to take action where allegations of corruption and malfeasance have been identified.

Problems seem to be piling for Mafube Local Municipality. At the end of June its Municipal Manager, Advocate Mothusi Lepheana, resigned and following his departure, the municipality struggled to pay its employees. They were paid about three weeks later.
