New brooms in the Free State Provincial Government

There are three new brooms in charge as heads of departments (HODs) in the Free State. These appointments were announced this week by the Free State Provincial Goverment.

The new brooms have been appointed in the Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport, the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation as well as the Department of Social Development.

Making the announcement, the Free State Provincial Government Provincial Spokesperson Palesa Chubisi said the appointments comes after a rigorous interview process that was aimed at finding the new brooms that will sweep clean in the relevant departments.

“All the shortlisted candidates demonstrated sound knowledge of administration, however, only one Head of Department could be appointed in the department,” said Chubisi.

The appointments are as follows:

 The HOD for the Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport is Dr. Masego Tshabalala.

It was mentioned that Dr Tshabalala has been working in the public sector, both national and provincial, for 27 years. She has extensive experience in the infrastructure sector. She possesses two Honours Degrees, an MBA, and a PHD in Business Management amongst others.

 The HOD for the Department of Social Development is Advocate Tumelo Phahlo.

Advocate Phahlo was defined as boasting 25 years of experience in the public sector having worked his way up the ranks. He has worked as a Director, Chief – Director and Acting Head of Department since 2020 and he holds a B Proc, LLB and was admitted as an advocate of the High Court in 2001.

 The HOD for the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation is Mr. Steve Tshabalala.

Tshabalala was explained as possessing an extensive experience (28 years) in the public sector and holding a Masters Degree in Business Administration and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management amongst others.

“Government is content that all the appointed HODs are equal to the task at hand and possess the necessary experience and capacity to execute their respective duties with distinction and congratulates and wishes them well on their appointments.

“Government would also like to thank all the candidates who applied for the vacancies and wishes them well in their future endeavors,” said Chubisi.
