Women in blue in the Lejweleputswa District which includes Welkom and surrounding areas flexed their muscle this past week and brought to book many wanted criminals.
These women from the Detective Services and Visible Policing components in the district embarked on a five-hour women only police trace operation called “Operation Basadi”.
The Operational Commander was Colonel Senobia Solomon and the purpose was to trace the most wanted suspects within Lejweleputswa District.
“These women in blue showed that sisters can do it for themselves, by stamping the authority of the State. Houses, parks, suspected hideout of criminals, vehicles were searched to trace the most wanted criminals,” said Police Spokersperson Captain Stephen Thakeng.
He said eighty (80) people were arrested for crimes like Contravention of Protection Order, Assault Common, Attempted Murders, Common Robbery, Assault with the intention to do bodily harm [GBH], Crimen Injuria, Malicious Damage to Property, House Breaking, Murders, Thefts, Rape, Assault in Domestic Violence, Fraud, Possession of Dagga and Possession of Ammunitions.
The Acting District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Brigadier Mzondi Mojafi applauded women in blue within the District for this excellent initiative to ensure that the wanted suspects are brought to book. The aim is for law abiding citizens to feel and be safe.
