Strong warning to school children

Knives, dagga, pairs of scissors and cigarettes were among the items found by the police when they conducted a search operation at Virginia High School in the goldfields area. These items were found abandoned.

Following this search school learners have been sternly warned to never carry dangerous weapons and drugs.

An operation was conducted by Virginia Social Crime Prevention and Welkom K9 Unit at Virginia High School.

Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said about 200 learners were searched and the following items packets of dagga, knives, cigarettes and scissors were found abandoned.

He said these kind of operations will be conducted without the knowledge of learners.

Thakeng said school Safety is the priority of Education Department together with SAPS thus these kind of operations.

“Learners are sternly warned not to carry dangerous weapons and drugs as they will be arrested and then they will have a criminal record which will affect their entire future,” said Thakeng.
