Rand Water dismisses claims of poisoned water from the Vaal dam

Rand Water said it is aware of the WhatsApp audio clip circulating on social media claiming that the ‘’dam has been poisoned’ and that water should not be consumed unless it is first boiled. Rand Water categorically dismisses these claims as false and misleading.

In a statement Rand Water said it abstract raw water from Vaal Dam, wich undergoes a comprehensive treatment process before being supplied to customers. Vigorous and continuous testing is conducted on both the raw and treated bulk water prior to distribution to customers including municipalities.

“It is important to mention that recent water quality results confirm that Rand Water’s treated bulk water supply fully complies with the South African National Standard for Drinking Water(SANS 241). Rand Water as the bulk water service provider remains committed to protecting the health of consumers and can confidently confirm that consumers may continue to safely drink water directly from the tap”.
