Primary athletes fly their school’s flag high in Cape Town

Thuto Ke Tsebo Primary School in Zamdela Sasolburg, bid farewell to its athletes who have qualified for the National Championships in Cape Town from 19–21 March 2026. The three athletes qualified for Cape Town Championships at the Free State Athletics Meeting that was held in Bloemfontein this past weekend.

Naledi Mofokeng optained 1st position, in the 1500m walk(Boys under 13), Siphesihle Ngubeni secured 2nd place in the 1200m(Boys under 11), while Matilda Ndlovu also secured 2nd position in the 1500m(Girls under 13)

On the 18th March 2026, Metsimaholo Local Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Cllr Malindi, accompanied by Ms Beauty Jantjie, Special Programs Officer in the Mayor’s Office visited the school to honour greatness of these three young athletes.

Mayor Malindi said going to the championships in Cape Town, these athletes will be representing not only their school, but their province.

In his words of encouragement Mayor Malindi said “This is what determination looks like, You have proven that greatness is not determined by where you come from, but by the effort you put in every single day.”

“Sport is not just about winning medals,” he continued. “It builds discipline, teamwork, confidence, and resilience. It teaches you how to rise after failure, how to work with others, and how to believe in yourself. These are qualities that will carry you far beyond the sports field.”

“While you chase your dreams on the field,” he said, “never forget your books. Education remains your strongest foundation. Excellence in academics will open doors that talent alone cannot.”
