Thabong police in Welkom have arrested the most wanted suspects whose modus operandi is using hammers to gain entrance into tuck shops in the area.
Police’s Crime intelligence received information about the most wanted hammer gang members and instantly a counter gangsterism operation was organized by Provincial Anti-Gang Unit led by Captain Freddie Deysel.
Police Spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said the information was followed and a house in Gugulethu Section of Thabong was cornered. Three foreign nationals and a South African males aged from 29 to 39 years old were found with 4,2 kg gold bearing material, cash thta amounts to R523-80, two hammers were seized.
The suspects will be linked with other outstanding cases of Business Burglaries that took place in Thabong where the walls of tuck shops were hit with hammers to gain entrance and rob foreign nationals valuables, groceries and cash.
The suspects will appear in Welkom Magistrate Court today.
The Acting District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Brigadier Mzondi Mojafi praised residents of Thabong for trusting the SAPS with this sensitive information which led to the arrests of the Most wanted suspects using hammers to gain entrance into tuck shops. Crime Intelligence and Anti Gang Unit members were also applauded to their quick response.
