On a mission to unearth raw talent in athletics

Athletics coach in Zamdela, Sasolburg has devoted his time and energy volunteering for years in unearthing, nurturing and developing young disadvantaged athletes.

Having being an athlete before Jan Ramaubane knows exactly how it feels being in the field track enjoying what you love.

The love for athletics and eagerness to see young athletes more especial from disadvantages community getting an opportunity to compete and reaching their dream goals is what motivate Coach Ramaubane.

Besides identifying, nurturing, grooming this young athletes Coach Rabulane beliefs also that these young athletes must be given opportunities to compete and showcase their talent. ‘These young and raw talent must be given opportunity to showcase their talent, and more importantly I belief that they must be protected too” said Coach Ramaubane.

Through the years Ramaubane have been working with various schools in Zamdela and Sasolburg and has seen some of his young talent grow and competing in national events winning accolades along the way.

Through his efforts the coach has managed so far to place more than 20 young athletes from disadvantaged communities on scholarship with private schools to further develop them.

The coach has a yearly camp with his athletes to prepare them for the upcoming season, and last year he had over 60 athletes taking part in his camp.

“I am working on establishing my own Academy that will be launched soon here in Sasolburg and through it my aim is to further nurture develop and protect these young athletes” said Ramaubane.

“This district of Fezile Dabi used to be on top when it comes to athletics, there is so much talent and I believe that we can produce top athletes in this district” added Ramaubana.

The coach has cautioned parents to be involved and be part of their children’s engagement with coaches and monitor their progress.

Ramaubane has produced and nurtured the like of Bokamoso Shabangu(Zamdela) who is now at Tuks Academy with personal best of 10:78 in 100m, Paballo Radebe SA Champion(800m) 2021, Refiloe Motlohi SA Cross Country Silver Medalist, Tshepo Tyantini AGN 2021 Champion and Free State 100m and 1200m champion Mamello Mashabe amongst others. Ramaubane’s academy will be hosting a 10km run race as well as a 5km Fun race on the 27th November this year in Sasolburg.
