Municipality to tighten the rule of law

Following the incident of street Drinking Hullabaloo in the town of Sasolburg this past weekend, the Metsimaholo Local Municipality today afternoon covenend an urgent high level meeting with various stakeholders to deal with the binging that wreaked havoc in this town in which the municipality’s headquarters are also situated.

The municipality has described the incident as shocking and unlawful.

The high level meeting held at the Public Safety Offices in Sasolburg included, Fezile Dabi District Commissioner, Senior SAPS Officials, Metsimaholo Executive Mayor Cllr Jack Malindi, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Public Safety Cllr Lefa Nhlapo, Free State Liquor Board representatives, Municipal By-law and Traffic Enforcement Units, Business Owners and other concerned stakeholders.

According to the municipality the gathering has described the incident and the behavior as “reckless and irresponsible”, where scores of people were captured in a widely circulated video consuming alcohol openly in the street and parking area outside a certain drinking establishment in the Central Business District of Sasolburg, until the early hours of Monday morning the 06th October 2025.

The municipality said the gathering has resolved that unlawful events will not be tolerated in Metsimaholo. Stakeholders such as the Police, Liquor Board have committed to stronger cooperation and stricter control measures. Metsimaholo Executive Mayor has condemned the incident in strongest terms, pledging joint action and community vigilance to restore order and the rule of law.
