The Metsimaholo Local Municipality in Sasolburg in the Free State says reports around R 900 million are misleading and lack context.
The Municipality said it is clarifying the record amid ongoing claims and reports of financial mismanagement regarding R 900 million, the purported R118 million withdrawal, and the R50 million payment to the Lizell Trust.
The municipality said while it respects the rights of any individuals to raise concerns it is equally important to ensure that public discourse is grounded in facts.
The municipality said it was responding to the alarming claims made by the former Councilor of that municipality, Mr April Tibisi Motaung, of the Fezile Dabi Civic Movement.
“The R 900million is not an allegation, but a cumulative value reflected in previous financial years as reported by the Auditor General of South Africa, and is receiving due oversight by the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC). The R50 million Lizell Trust payment is subject to legal processes” said the municipality in a statement.
