Metsimaholo Local Municipality says it is hard at work to repair damages and address challenges of spillages at its pump stations.
The municipality says while progress has been made at sewer pump stations, some are still undergoing critical repair and installation work.
The municipality’s Sewer Pump Stations Status Report indicates that at the Welgelegen Pump Station, the system is operating optimally, stable and effectively pumping water to the Waste Water Treatment Works.
At the Badriff Pump Station, the report says the system is not fully operational and runs manually to ensure minimal disruptions. A suction pipe has been installed to safely redirect sewage into the Welgelegen sewer line. Permanent installation of a new pipe already scheduled, to be completed on the 3rd September 2025.
“Abrahamsrust Pump Station is drained daily to avoid overflow and environmental harm, while additional care is being taken to prevent contamination of the Vaal River tributary. The installation of a new pipe is also scheduled for the 3rd September 2025,” states the report.
The municipality says it recognises the importance of these facilities in protecting public health, safeguarding the environment and ensuring its community. Setbacks have been due to unavoidable delays in repairs and pump deliveries
