Municipal veteran leaves behind community service legacy

Stepping down to retirement, one of Metsimaholo Local Municipality veteran leader’s legacy has been described as that of a unifier, dedicated to community service.

Bidding farewell to its seasoned leader, BJ Malindi, The Council Chambers in Deneysville was filled with warmth, gratitude, and celebration on the 2nd October 2025, as Metsimaholo Local Municipality bids farewell to its Unit Manager for both Deneysville and Oranjeville respectively, and a remarkable 15 years as a councillor.

Malindi’s journey with Metsimaholo stretches back to the earliest days of local government transformation. He served on the Oranjeville Transitional Council and later played a pivotal role in the District Municipality.

“When the three towns of Sasolburg, Deneysville, and Oranjeville merged to form Metsimaholo Local Municipality, he became one of the founding councillors, setting the tone for collaboration and community-driven governance. Before entering politics in the 1980s, Malindi was a teacher, an experience that shaped his ability to lead, guide, and inspire others with patience and wisdom” said the municipality.

The retirement celebration for Malindi, reflected the deep respect his colleagues held for him, including Program Director of the day Mr Moss Mongale.

Speaking on behalf of employees from Deneysville and Oranjeville, Mr Lekwa Dlamini described Malindi as a “unifier,” a man whose leadership consistently brought people together. Dr. Gino Alberts delivered heartfelt words on behalf of managers in the Office of the Municipal Manager, highlighting Malindi’s steady hand and a dependable character.

Representing the same office, Ms. Manini Lebusa presented gifts to the retiree, a token of appreciation for his many years of service.

Speaking on behalf of the Municipal Manager, Mr Kobeli commended Mr Malindi for the cordial and constructive working relationship they shared, emphasizing how his guidance and collaboration contributed to the smooth running of the municipality.

In his parting words Malindi, thanked everyone who attended his retirement celebration and extended heartfelt gratitude to his colleagues for their support through the years. He urged municipal staff to maintain strong, respectful, and united working relationships. “You are winners,” he reminded them, “and as winners, you must ensure that you serve the community of Metsimaholo with excellence.”

The municipality said the celebration was not just a farewell, but also a recognition of a man who dedicated his life to public service, education, leadership and leaves behind a proud legacy, one that will continue to inspire both colleagues and the community he served so faithfully.
