Mayor and Speaker positions in Moqhaka still vacant as key Municipal Programs postponed

The Democratic Alliance in Moqhaka has raised concern on the recent postponement of the Integral Development Program (IDP) and the Budget Road-show, by the municipality.

The party said with the Executive Mayor and Speaker vacancies still unresolved, Member of the Mayoral Committee portfolios remain unfilled, resulting in meetings being postponed, and key decisions stuck.

This is after the cancellation of a Council meeting last week, that was to elect the Executive Mayor and Speaker. The Special Council Meeting collapsed after a no-show by African National Congress Councilors.

In a statement last week the African National Congress in the Fezile Dabi Region said the non-sitting of the Special Council Meeting that was scheduled for the 22 April 2026, will not have any impact on service delivery, Municipal operations or the day to day functioning of the municipality.

The DA said with the IDP deadline of 31 May 2026 fast approaching, planning is delayed and service delivery suffers.

The party said it has raised these issues with the Acting Municipal Manager, but action is still awaited.
