The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation (SCI) unit based in Welkom, in collaboration with the Kroonstad Public Order Police (POP) and the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), conducted a search-and-seizure operation at the Moqhaka Local Municipality offices, on Friday, 9th January 2026.
The operation was prompted by allegations of fraud and corruption linked to procurement irregularities involving a service provider.
During the operation, several documents, including payment vouchers and other related records, were seized and will form part of further investigations. No arrests have been made at this stage, and investigations are ongoing.
