Free State Community Radio Stations shone out and well represented the province during the recent inaugural Community Radio Awards. The prestigious Community Radio of the Year title was awarded to the Bloemfontein-based Motheo FM, recognising its outstanding contribution to the sector.
Over 72 stations participated in the event, with nominees and winners travel from across the country, including the Free State, Western Cape, KZN, and Northern Cape.
Other winners from various categories in the Free State are from Mosupatsela, CUT, Beezy and Dihlabeng Radio Stations.
Chairman and founder Motseki Mabuya expressed gratitude, stating: “We are humbled by the overwhelming support and electrifying energy at our first-ever awards ceremony. This event is a testament to the passion and resilience of community radio, which plays a vital role in shaping local narratives and connecting communities.”

Among the standout winners were:
– Mo Simela (Beezy FM), who took home Best Online Presenter
– Saziso Dlamini (Radio Khwezi) awarded Best Breakfast Show Presenter.
