“Art is part of me, I apply art in my life, it refreshes my mind, it heals, it is therapeutic” says visual artist Kekana Somfula known as Tatu Art in his hometown of Rammulutsi, Viljoenskroon.
Started doing art back in 1998 Tatu Art knew that art was something within him and he loved it. Growing up , Tatu Art learned and practised many artworks without realizing back then it was actual art. Now Tatu Art is doing what is termed visual art, which includes painting, drawing, crafts, murals, portraits etc.
Tatu Art said he does most of his work using recycled materials, such as plastic, paper, fabric and wool.

“I also do what I call art development. I do workshops for all age groups including children. I also work with teachers in their preparations for lessons. I do workshops on individuals and groups such as schools, churches, companies where I teach step by step how to do simple things with hands such as gifts, flowers, drawings and many more,” said Tatu Art.

“I do this as I want to encourage people to know more about art and its benefits. As I have mentioned before, art helps one to be creative and challenges you to think, find solutions and most importantly to express one’s emotions. Above all, one can also make a living out of art,” added Tatu Art.

Next month Tatu Art will present a Flower Making workshop where he will be teaching participants how to make flowers using recycling materials such as paper, plastic, wool, fabric etc.
