EFF in Fezile Dabi says No to the reopening of schools

After conducting its oversight on the readiness of schools in Fezile Dabi to open today as announced by the Department of Basic Education last month, the Economic Freedom Fighters in the Fezile Dabi Region in the Free State Province has called on the Department of Education not to open schools.

The EFF said it conducted oversight on schools in the area of Fezile Dabi and has discovered that majority of schools were not yet ready to comply with standards stipulated in terms of fighting the spread of covid-19.

In a statement released by its Chairperson in the Region April Motaung , the EFF called on the department of education in the Free State province not to open schools in the Free State up until reasonable scientific measures are in place.

“Based on assessment conducted by us on our oversight to schools we have witnessed that schools are not ready. We therefore calls on principals, teachers, learners and parents not to reopen on Monday 1 June 2020 as normal acceptable standards are not in place to fight the spread of covid-19,”said Motaung.

He added that although the EFF Fezile Dabi acknowledges efforts made by schools it was still not enough.

“It is only Iketsetseng Comprehensive School that is compliant and ready though it can’t be it alone hence the Minister of Basic Education Ms Angie Motshega prioritize it on her visit to Free State on 29 May 2020 trying to paint picture on media as if Free State Province is ready.

“All parents in Fezile Dabi District must never allow their children to go to schools as of 1 June 2020 as schools are not yet ready to proceed with current state of un-readiness,”said Motaung
