Chief fireman blasts the final siren as he retires

Metsimaholo Local Municipality has sent its final bid of farewell to the extraordinary career of Chief Fire Officer, Mr James Mkhwanazi.

Mkwanazi’s journey in public service spans over three remarkable decades, a story marked by courage, leadership, and an unshakable commitment to protecting and saving lives.

“Chief Mkhwanazi’s career began humbly in 1991, when he took up the role of ambulance assistant at Ngwathe Local Municipality. Even in those early years, his passion for service and his devotion to his community shone brightly. Driven by purpose and a heart to serve, he moved to Matjhabeng Local Municipality in 1996, where he embraced the calling of a fireman” said the municipality.

By year 2002, he had already risen to the position of Station Officer, a role that allowed him to lead others with both skill and empathy. His leadership journey continued when he was entrusted with the responsibility of Divisional Officer for Training, where he poured his knowledge and experience into equipping the next generation of firefighters.

Later, as Assistant Chief Fire, he further demonstrated his ability to inspire, mentor, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in fire and rescue services.

In 2016, Chief Mkhwanazi’s path led him to Metsimaholo Local Municipality, where he assumed the role of Chief Fire. “For nine years, he stood as a beacon of integrity and dedication, guiding his department with wisdom and courage. Under his leadership, the fire services grew stronger, more efficient, and more committed than ever to the safety and well-being of the community”.

As he retires, “The Metsimaholo community pauses to reflect on his extraordinary legacy. His unwavering commitment, his countless sacrifices, and his tireless pursuit of excellence will continue to inspire long after his departure from active service.

On behalf of the entire municipality, we extend our deepest gratitude to Chief Mkhwanazi for his decades of faithful service. We wish him a retirement filled with peace, joy, and well-deserved fulfilment. His remarkable journey has set a standard for all who follow, and his legacy will remain deeply woven into the fabric of Metsimaholo’s history” said the municipality.
