Brutal murder and house robbery in Oranjeville – police looking for suspects

Free State Police are in search of three suspects who in the early house of Friday, the 22nd January 2021, stormed an elderly couple’s house in Oranjeville, killed the husband and robbed them of their belongings.

According to the police the three armed robbers killed the husband, robbed them of firearms and cash then drove away with the vehicle.

Police spokespeson Colonel Thandi Mbambo said it is alleged that in the early hours of the 22 January 2021, a couple aged 68 and 67 was sleeping in their home in Oranjeville when they were surprised by the presence of three unknown males in their bedroom.

“One of the suspects was allegedly standing near the bedroom door, whilst the other two were on both sides of the bed.

“The husband (68) tried to wrestle with the suspect who was on his side of the bed and was stabbed four times during the ordeal. His hands and feet were then tied and he was left on the ground.

“The suspects then threatened and demanded money from the wife (67) who took them to the garage where the safe was. Upon opening the safe, the suspects were not satisfied with the amount of money they found and took the husband’s firearm which was also in the safe.

“After failing to get more money from the wife they went further and took the second firearm which was in another safe in the house. They then tied her hands and feet and left her on the bed. She managed to untie herself and called for help,” said Mbambo.

The husband was declared dead at the scene.

Mbambo said the suspects fled scene with an undisclosed amount of money, and two pistols, then drove off with the victim`s VW Polo with registration number HGX 515 FS.
