The Mmabahloki Clara Home in Petrus Steyn opened it’s doors for the older persons unit of Thabo Mofutsanyana district to celebrate elderly abuse and alzheimers day. About 50 Luncheon clubs of the district conveyed in Petrus Steyn at Mmabahloki centre to be advised and provided with information on being vigilant of signs of abuse and be able to report them to the relevant structures.
The event was hosted under theTheme: MAINTAIN & PROMOTE THE STATUS, WELL-BEING, SAFETY & SECURITY OF OLDER PERSONS. MAINTAIN AND PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF OLDER PERSON.
Stakeholders including SAPS, Department of Health,Community Policing Forum, Sports Arts and Culture, House of Traditional Leaders and other stakeholders addressed elderly abuse by giving different signs, like attacks from other family members or strangers, people taking their SASSA cards pretending to take care of them, and places where to report all the signs.
The highlight of the day was an address by Me.Thakane Raditapole from SA Alzheimer. She gave early signs of alzheimers and advised the elderly people to keep checking on strange behaviors of their peers; signs like forgetfulness, repetition of one incident more than once in a short space of time and also be aware of eating habits and any other strange behaviors and disorders.
Me Maraditapole encouraged the employees of the section to invite the minders and / or family members of the elderly people in their next awareness sothat they too can be kept abreast of the signs and also be given an in depth knowledge of handling people with Elzheimer. Mmabahloki Clara home was applauded by Me.Mpae Mokone for their up-class hospitality and warm welcome.
