The Welkom Anti Gang Unit has arrested two males aged 30 and 32. The alleged suspects were WANTED in connection with a robbery case that was recently reported in Thabong.
On Sunday, 13 September 2026, members attached to the Welkom AGU were conducting crime duties when they received information on the whereabouts of one of the wanted suspects. Information was operationalised and led members to an address in Thabong. The alleged suspect was subsequently found and arrested.
Further investigations led police to the second suspect in Oppenheimer Park, Thabong. During the second arrest, police recovered a laptop charger, backpack, a hat and an adapter plug that were reported stolen during the robbery. Police also seized two big knives presumed to have been used during the commission of the crime.
The recovered items were positively identified by the complainant. The third alleged suspect is yet to be arrested.
According to information, on Saturday, 5 September 2026, the complainant was on his way to his place of residence when he was accosted by three males. Two of them were allegedly wielding knives and attempted to stab him before robbing him of his belongings.
A case of robbery with a weapon other than a firearm was registered for further investigation. The two arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Welkom Magistrate’s Court soon.
