Free State Premier appoints a spin doctor

The Office of the Free State Premier has announced the appointment of Matshediso Setai as Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae’s Spokesperson and Media Liaison Officer (MLO).

Her appointment is regarded by the Office of the Premier as strategic as it underscores the Free State Government’s commitment to reinforcing effective communication, and ensuring that the Government’s programme of action is well-articulated to all stakeholders.

Announcing the appointment the Office of the Premier said Setai’s role is pivotal in advancing the mandate of the 7th Administration to heighten engagement between Government, stakeholders, and the public while managing and safeguarding the Administration’s narrative.

As the MLO, Setai will serve as the critical link between the Political Office and Government Communication Services, ensuring alignment with the principles outlined in the Government Communicators Handbook. She will focus on supporting the Premier’s communication strategy, organizing media engagements, and facilitating transparency and accountability in all public-facing initiatives. Her role also includes working closely with the administrative communication team to ensure seamless coordination and a unified voice for the Government.

Setai is a seasoned strategic communicator and development communications specialist, with extensive experience in public relations, media relations, and integrated communications. Her proven track record in both the public and private sectors will enhance the Government’s capacity to respond effectively and proactively to communication needs, ensuring consistency and credibility in public engagements.

Acting Premier Jabu Mbalula welcomed the appointment, stating “Ms. Matshediso Setai’s appointment as Spokesperson is a vital step in strengthening the Premier’s communication agenda.
